The Greyton Conservation Society, with the support of the Greyton Municipality, has reintroduced and marked walking paths for the not-so-fit, and hiking trails for the more energetic, in the commonage and Nature Reserve of Greyton. For both walks and trails, stout footwear is recommended. The paths are marked. They start and end at the same point, where ample parking for cars is available.
Some spectacular views can be encountered, the bird life changing from mountain habitat to riverine surroundings to the garden life of the village, and the fynbos produces magnificent flowers at all times of the year at different altitudes.
The visitor to Greyton will delight in the natural beauty of our heritage. More information go to the Footprints website

Some advice regarding the Bosmanskloof Trail from Klaus Wehrlin.
The formulation that the starting point is "7km before the actual walk" is misleading. The local hiking group occasionally hikes those "7km before the actual walk" for the beauty of it. It leads through part of the Greyton Nature Reserve and its fynbos past Breakfast Rock to the “Viewing Point”, with beautiful views back over Greyton and surrounds. The entry into the Vrolijkheid Cape Nature Reserve is indeed 7 km from the start at "the Viewing Point".
The website http://www.sdeklerk.com/hiking/greytonmac/greytonmac.htm gives a good indication of what to expect: The picture "Looking down at Greyton" is taken from - and over - those "7km".
There are two starting points on the Greyton side:
The Entrance to the Greyton Nature Reserve at the North-end of Park St.
-
The East-end of Nerina St. see map
Both have ample parking space and there is no nearer entry point.
Those two arms of the trail meet at the Gobos crossing of the Jeep track into Wolfkloof. The last four years we had quite a bit of water and the Gobos has changed its course a couple of times. So this junction of the two arms is now on the Greyton side of the Gobos and specially if you start at the Park St end you have to be sure which way to go. It would be advisable to check this out on the evening before. You are welcome to arrange something with me - preferably by e-mail - k.wehrlin@tiscali.co.za
As for fitness: please read the pamphlet you got with your permit carefully, the hike will take you about 5-7h depending on your fitness and the speed you want to walk. It is advisable to start before 07:00 to get the long ascent to the Viewing Point (650m altitude, Greyton is at 220m) over with when it is still cool. Please DO take water with you!
On the other side there is still a 14km stretch of dirt road into McGregor which is not advisable to walk, so arrange for the McGregor Hosts to fetch you at "Die Galg".
Enjoy your hike and stay in Greyton and McGregor and do not hesitate to contact me for further information or the short (30min) excursion to find the start. Its free of charge and you are welcome.
Regards Klaus
