IT'S FLOWER POWER AT THE GREYTON ROSE FAIR
This year Greyton celebrates the 21st annual Greyton Rose Fair and plans are well underway to make this a 21st birthday party to remember.
The fair will take place over the weekend of 27 and 28 October and the theme this year is Flower Power (imaginations are running wild already!).
The main attraction this year, as always, is the fabulous display of roses, which draws the crowds back year after year. With judging and prize-giving having taken place the night before, the display is opened to the public on both Saturday and Sunday. In addition, a variety of different gardens are also on show, many of them within strolling distance of each other.
Greyton is renowned for its Saturday morning market and this will be expanded on Rose Fair weekend to include more than 100 stalls selling everything from art to artichokes – as well as roses of every colour, shape and description.
Each year the Greyton Rose Fair is organised by the Greyton Seniors, a group that works tirelessly throughout the year to uplift those less fortunate than themselves. They do this each week by providing between 30 and 40 people with a well-balanced, substantial meal, an occasion that is for many the highlight of their week.
The Greyton Rose Fair is a Seniors fundraiser. Seniors members do all the work for the Rose Fair weekend themselves so that absolutely every cent raised can be ploughed back into the community. This year the aim is to make enough money to refurbish the building known locally as the Moravian Hall, a community hall alongside the Greyton library.
But that’s not all. They also hope to raise enough money to build a play park alongside the hall for the use of all the children in the Greyton community.
